East Ocean View Civic League Members,
I hope you are enjoying our summer break and taking time to enjoy our beaches, waterways, and local businesses this summer. In the absence of a civic league meeting in July and August, I wanted to share a few updates that may be of interest to you.
1. The East Beach Institute is preparing to open the application process for citizens to apply for grants to help address issues of food insecurity, education, and mental health in the Ocean View community. Additional information is posted on the website, and we will post an announcement on the civic league when applications open.
2. The Commonwealth Transportation Board recently voted to approve funding for Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons to be installed at crosswalks on 5th Bay and 19th Bay. The grant money will be included in the fiscal year 25-26 budget with construction starting, hopefully, in the spring of 2026. Funding for a new traffic signal at 21st Bay has not been approved yet, but this was listed as an intermediate phase (2024-2027) project as part of the Ocean View Avenue Comprehensive Transportation Study Recommendations. The civic league continues to communicate with city officials as we recognize pedestrian safety as a top priority for community members.
3. We will continue to post updates throughout the summer on our website (www.livingeov.org) with information as it becomes available. This is a great way to stay up to date on community events over our summer break.
Our meetings will resume on September 7, 2023 at 7:00 at the East Ocean View Recreation Center. We look forward to seeing you then!
