Many of you knew Pastor Ken Gerry. He died on December 17th at the young age of 70 after suffering a heart attack a couple days earlier. His Celebration of Life Service was at the Church of the Pentecost (formerly New Life Christian Center, where he served for 36 years) on Pleasant Avenue on the 29th. And it was a celebration, indeed. There were well over 200 friends and family, including his wife of 37 years, Pastor Nancy Gerry, gathered to rejoice in music and scripture Ken loved. Oh, and there was a lot of shouting going on, with constant reminders to all in attendance, "That’s what Pastor Ken would have loved!" Tributes were read and expressed by family members and former pastoral friends, and there was a closing by Coach Dwight McDowell that few will forget!
Ken's entire obituary can be viewed at the link below so I won't repeat it here, but the picture is the one we should all remember him by. He was a great friend to the East Ocean View and East Beach communities, the latter for his many years leading an Easter morning sunrise service and Christmas Eve carols. Any donations may be made in his memory to the Storehouse, also on Pleasant Avenue.
