Here's an update from our Norfolk City Neighborhood Development Specialist, Rey Ortiz, Jr.
💚Holiday Cards for Veterans - MacArthur Memorial is hosting this family-friendly program from November 25th to December 15th. During this period, museum visitors are invited to create a card to send to a veteran. The Memorial will provide all supplies and the cards will be delivered to Hampton Roads-area veterans’ hospitals before Christmas Day. The Memorial will also have a make-and-take origami paper crane-making activity for visitors. Supplies will be available daily in the MacArthur Memorial Visitors Center during normal operating hours of Tuesday - Saturday, 10AM - 5PM. There is no charge to participate.
🚫Norfolk’s Crime Reduction Strategy - As the City of Norfolk moves beyond the immediate effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, its approach to combatting crime takes on a renewed sense of urgency. 💸Grant Opportunities for non-profits - Applications are being ACCEPTED NOW for the FY 2024 Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant year and the new Program for Improving Capacity and Capability (PICC). 🥽Aquatics Update - The City of Norfolk’s aquatics facilities are operating under adjusted hours. Southside Aquatics Center is temporarily closed for necessary maintenance and safety repairs. Hours and dates of operation have been expanded at the Northside and Huntersville pools to re-accommodate classes or open swim availability needs of regular patrons. Please contact the Parks & Recreation Department at parksrec@norfolk.gov or 757-823-4291 for details on events or courses that may be adjusted as a result of these changes.
