A Bit About Leslie

Leslie Nelson brings a lifetime of public service, leadership, and organizational expertise to the East Ocean View Civic League. Originally from Northern Virginia, she earned a Master's degree in Experimental Psychology with a concentration in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Following graduate school, Leslie began her career as a civilian employee with the U.S. Department of the Navy, where she conducted inspections and accreditations of contractor facilities, government installations, and U.S. Navy vessels. Her responsibilities also included supporting briefings for the House Armed Services Committee and Senate Armed Services Committee, coordinating nationwide meetings that connected program officers with fleet representatives and military leadership to facilitate the introduction and deployment of new technologies, and contributing to security, strategic planning, and organizational development initiatives.

As her career progressed, Leslie established and managed an interagency training center, overseeing its budget, operations, policies, security programs, staff, and long-range strategic planning efforts. She also guided the development of databases, administered professional development courses, and collaborated extensively with partner agencies to strengthen workforce readiness and organizational effectiveness.

After relocating to the Atlanta metropolitan area, Leslie focused on raising her two children while continuing her professional pursuits. During this time, she served as an Online Test Development Manager for a company specializing in pre-employment assessments and provided professional feedback for personality assessment programs used by organizations across the country.

In later years, Leslie dedicated herself to caring for family members, reflecting the same commitment to service and compassion that has defined both her personal and professional life. In July 2023, she made East Ocean View her home and quickly embraced the neighborhood's strong sense of community.

Leslie is proud to serve the East Ocean View Civic League and is committed to helping preserve and enhance the qualities that make the neighborhood such a special place to live. She believes that active civic engagement, strong community relationships, and collaborative leadership are essential to building a vibrant and welcoming future for all residents.
