George Malamos

President

A Bit About George

George has been a resident of EOV since 1987 and an EOVCL Board member since 2018, and secretary for 2023-2025, after which he was elected President in 2026.  George wants the EOVCL to be relevant for the community and effective in moving issues to the appropriate Norfolk staff for resolution.  He has empowered the EOVCL Board of Directors to take on responsibility and initiative. Mostly, George wants to learn what is important to the community.  In the past, he has supported member surveys and added a new standing agenda item allowing members to bring forward opinions, concerns and new ideas.  George is engaged with other Official City of Norfolk Committees including Chairman of the Coastal Management Review Board and a member of the Ocean View Advisory Committee.  Both are attended by City Council representatives.  George frequently addresses the Norfolk Planning Commission and City Council when topics are relevant to EOV.  Living on the beach, George has a personal interest in coastal issues and beach nourishment.

George graduated from the University of Virginia, a structural engineer by training and recently retired from the Naval Facilities Engineering Command after 38 years as a Civil Servant.  He has served in many positions including design engineer, Strategic Business Office, IT Development, Process Improvement, Aviation Facilities, and finally leading the facilities engineering criteria program for the Navy’s Chief Engineering Office.
