East Ocean View Civic League Scholarship Program
Scholarship Overview
The East Ocean View Civic League (EOVCL) is proud to announce the launch of our annual East Ocean View Civic League Scholarship Program. This initiative is designed to support local high school students who are residents within our geographic radius and are pursuing continued education, whether at a trade school, university, or other accredited institution. One scholarship per year will be granted.

Scholarship Details

Award Amount: $1,000

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must be residents of the EOVCL geographic radius located between 1st Bay Street through Harbor Walk (see map below if needed).

Applicants must be high school students planning to continue their education after graduation.

Applicants must be graduating during the calendar year for which they are applying.

Applicants can attend any school or institution of their choice.

Submission Requirements:

Report:

A single-spaced report (approximately 500-750 words) detailing how the applicant has contributed to one or more of the EOVCL Strategic initiatives. These initiatives include:

Public Safety: Efforts to enhance safety in the community through initiatives like crime prevention, disaster preparedness, or advocacy.

Schools: Activities that support education, student success, or school resources.
-
Community Engagement: Volunteerism, organizing events, or fostering community spirit.
-

Contributions can have taken place anywhere in the city of Norfolk, not limited to East Ocean View.

Reference:
-
One letter of recommendation from someone who has observed the applicant’s character and work ethic.

Transcript:

An official transcript of the applicant’s high school record.

Interview:
-
After the application deadline, applicants may be interviewed by the scholarship committee. Interview topics will include - but are not limited to - the project(s) outlined in the essay, applicant’s high school career, other interests/clubs/sports, and goals in their continued education and subsequent careers.

**To Submit Application**
Send all attachments (report, letter of recommendation, and transcript) to EOVCLScholarship@gmail.com in an email with the subject line of the applicant’s first and last name, and please include the home address in the body of the email to ensure residency within the EOVCL geographic radius.

Review Process
Applications will be reviewed by a scholarship committee composed of EOVCL Members and community representatives. Evaluation criteria will include:

Alignment with the strategic initiatives of the Civic League.

Depth of impact and significance of contributions.

Clarity and quality of the written report.
Award Notification and Distribution
The scholarship recipient will be notified by May 31 and recognized at the June Civic League meeting. Although not mandatory, we highly encourage the scholarship recipient to be present at this meeting. The scholarship will be sent directly to the school of enrollment. A certified copy of acceptance must be received by the EOVCL Scholarship Committee before payment will be made.
